Hey, there! Greetings from 30,000 feet up! Just touching base after spending the past 10 days in Asheville, North Carolina. It was a trip filled with helping my mom move back to California and bidding farewell to a city brimming with history, arts, culture, and an incredible culinary and craft brewing scene.
Wandering through the historic streets of Asheville brought back memories of Alameda, especially the West End. The murals decorating outdoor spaces, the community gardens, and the live music scattered throughout downtown gave me a cozy feeling of home and made me appreciate all the charms our island has to offer.
During my stroll, I chatted with a merchant eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring. Spring through fall marks the return of local farmers' markets to downtown Asheville, bringing with them a sense of community, fresh produce, and unique experiences. These markets truly boost local businesses.
This got me thinking about our very own Alameda Farmers' Market (located at 710 Haight Ave.), right in the heart of our district. Every Tuesday and Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM, rain or shine, we have a year-round market offering locals access to fresh, locally produced fruits, veggies, meats, baked goods, and so much more.
It’s not just a market; it’s a vibrant hub where neighbors of all ages and backgrounds come together to explore, taste new things, and learn about healthy foods and their origins. From honey and tamales to specialty spices, ceramics, and cheesecakes, our market boasts something for everyone.
Feeling pumped about our market scene, I came up with a fun idea!
Between April 2 and April 27, snap a photo of your market haul at the Alameda Farmers' Market, tag @westalamedabusiness on Instagram or Facebook, or use the #WABAFarmersMarket hashtag, and you'll be entered to win gift cards from local West End businesses.
Three winners will be announced on April 30th. Let's spread the market love and support our local community!
